2025 「NEW Days」（神奈川/Art Center NEW)
この作品は、沖縄県公文書館に所蔵されている6枚の日本軍捕虜の写真をもとに制作されています。空間には、それぞれの写真を参考に描いたイラストと、その場面に関わる道具や構造物が配置されています。来場者は作品に触れながら、顔をはめる、スイカを動かす、呼び鈴を押す、縄跳びを跳ぶ、飴をすくう、壁の線に腰を合わせるといった動作を体験できます。
これらの動きは写真に写る捕虜たちの姿勢をなぞることにもなりますが、ただの再現ではありません。日常の何気ない仕草が、状況や文脈の違いによってどのように意味を変えるのか――その多義性や曖昧さに気づけるような仕掛けとして空間をつくっています。遠く離れた過去の出来事が、いまの私たちの身体感覚を通して、新しい問いかけとして立ち上がって欲しい。
This work is based on six photographs of Japanese prisoners of war preserved in the Okinawa Prefectural Archives. In the space, illustrations inspired by each photograph are displayed along with related tools and structures. Visitors are invited to interact with the work by placing their face in a panel, moving a watermelon, ringing a bell, jumping rope, scooping candy, or aligning their waist with a line on the wall.
These actions trace the postures seen in the photographs, but they are more than simple reenactments. Everyday gestures can change their meaning depending on context and situation. The space is designed to draw attention to this ambiguity and multiplicity of meaning. Through the sensations of the body in the present, events that may seem far away in history can rise again as new questions for us today.
